About Shachar Zionist Activity
The Shachar organization was established in 2010 through believing in and recognizing the ability of the younger generation to inspire change and influence the future of Israeli society at the critical crossroads of intensive army service that lies ahead of them. We believe that adaptation and the experience of personal success will influence their choices and values later in life.
The organization manages nine pre-military preparatory courses throughout the country: from Kibbutz El-Rom in the northern Golan Heights to Derech Mevo Dotan in northern Samaria, Mikveh Israel in Holon, and all the way through to Nitzan in the south. Every year, the organization trains and prepares approximately 450 students for their military service through these courses. The students receive direction regarding military roles best suited for them, and they are accompanied throughout the way.
The organization also accompanies 1,800 soldiers who are reaching the end of their term of service, and offers them a unique graduate program which combines emotional and ethical processing of their army service. They also receive preparation and connections to continue on their path, and the options for an independent adult life in Israel.
October 7th gave rise to complexities that the State of Israel had never before encountered, bringing with it complicated struggles with complex and challenging issues for all Israeli citizens, and for IDF combat soldiers in particular. In light of these complexities our country has faced, the organization decided to expand its work and introduced activities for the period just following discharge from the army. In doing so, it chose to undertake an important national calling: We established Alot Hashachar to help teams of combat soldiers who fought in the Swords of Iron war create closure from their army service, to relieve themselves from the military framework, not only physically, but also psychologically, and to prevent the possibility of post trauma that could occur in the future.
Shachar has set itself a goal to strengthen the resilience of the discharged combat soldiers so that they can integrate successfully into Israeli society and give their contribution to the country.
